Are Colombians interested in environmental ecology, care for the environment and sustainability? Of course we are interested! Every day there are more Colombian men and women who join the study of ecology and nature and who seek to learn much more so that we can all have a much greener country with greater awareness.
An important fact that all Colombians should know is that Colombia is one of the countries with the greatest biodiversity in the world, but every day that passes that we do not take care of our country, its natural wealth decreases.
This is where all the environmental projects and legal resources that are being taken in recent years with the intention of protecting the environment, environmental ecology and sustainability in our country begin to take on real importance.

Problems of environmental ecology in the development of our country
agricultural development

It is impressive how much agricultural development has taken away from Colombian biodiversity in recent years, and it is that every time we take more from the land and soil without giving them anything in return. That is why, as part of ecology and daily life, many people recommend permaculture as a new form of agriculture, a practice and way of life that tries to return everything we take from nature and that seeks to take care of it at its best.
The opinion of experts such as Roberto Torres (deputy director of CORPOICA) speaks precisely about many of the ideas proposed in permaculture, that is, developing agriculture technologically and with the new tools that are available to reduce the impact on the environment.
Marine contamination

It is no secret to anyone that marine pollution affects systems around the world and our country is clearly no exception. According to the Colombian Commission of the Ocean, the most common causes of marine pollution are the rudimentary forms of mining exploitation, agro-industrial activities, industrial activities and many other things.
Solid waste pollution

Data shows that around 15 thousand tons of solid waste are produced daily, imagine that amount of waste that simply ends up in landfills or even in the oceans and seas of the country. Isn’t it easier to learn to recycle and reuse all that solid waste? We invite you to read all about recycling and ways to reuse what you think is no longer useful!
What is industrial ecology?
In recent times, a very interesting practice has been gaining importance in the world and in the country: industrial ecology. Let’s learn more about this type of ecology.
What does industrial ecology consist of?

Industrial ecology seeks to bring two thoughts that would seem far removed from each other together to achieve great benefits for the environment. These concepts are clearly ecology and industry.
The main objective is to look at the industry as an ecosystem and study it from that point of view, always seeking the sustainability of these industrial systems and the reuse of waste from some industries for the production of others.
In a few words, what is sought with industrial ecology is to efficiently use all the resources that are available (is it something like permaculture?) and make the most of the resources to promote the way of life of individuals. , of the populations and of the community that agrees in that ecosystem.
What is known about industrial ecology in Colombia?
As we could see previously, the industrial and economic development that our country has had in recent years has had quite strong consequences on our nature and on the ecosystem in which we Colombians live.
Taking this problem into account, many Colombians have joined seeking to work on the development of industrial ecology in Colombia, and that is because so many industries that exist in the country can join together to make the most of the available resources.
The most interesting thing about ecology and sustainable development is that many times companies simply discard resources that may be of interest and of great use to other companies. Imagine not having to invest large amounts of money to dispose of resources you no longer use, instead receiving a small (but important) sum of money from another company to buy resources that you previously simply paid to dispose of, don’t you think? something flashy?
We Colombians have the intelligence and the necessary resources to convert industrial ecology in Colombia into a practice of daily life, we even have the necessary tools to make Colombia the base of a new way of working in industry (we can take Kalundborg as a great example).
What is deep ecology?

In addition to industrial ecology, there is also a branch known as deep ecology, let’s learn a little more about it.
Deep ecology is created or its concept begins to be studied in the early 1970s when a Norwegian (Naess), an expert in philosophy, proposes a new way of dealing with ecological and social problems.
Deep ecology is a more philosophical way of seeing problems, it is about seeking a greater connection with nature, understanding it better to be part of the problem and find better solutions to what is lived.
Principles of deep ecology
Some of the most important and relevant principles of deep ecology are:
- The human being is at the same level as nature.
- As human beings we are obliged to use wealth and biodiversity only for vital needs.
- Every ecosystem has the right to survive.
Environmental ecology in Colombia is a reality, despite this, many of us need to become aware of the importance of this science and, above all, the importance of caring for the environment and the ecosystem in which we live. We are on the right track, but we must make decisions and change many things to achieve the results that we all expect in the country.
